What a season, Part 2
Last Updated : 23-Jun-2005 byNationwide Conference, Saturday 2nd October 2004 @ 15:00; Underhill Stadium
Ian Selley's late piledriver rescued a point for ten-man Woking as Barnet's title charge continued to stutter.
Despite a brace from Giuliano Grazioli, Barnet handed their average visitors an undeserved point and have now not won in the league for three games.
Woking clearly came to stifle the Conference leaders by deploying Justin Richards as a lone striker.
Playing for a draw, they managed it - though not in the manner they expected.
Grazioli opened the scoring late on in a dire first half. Dean Sinclair cut the ball back from the sideline to the striker on the penalty spot and he shot right-footed past Shwan Jalal.
After the break Woking went on the offensive, replacing midfielder Michael Johnson with Steve Ferguson in attack, and it immediately paid off.
Ferguson combined with Raphael Nade down the right flank. Nade scampered away and slipped the ball past Ricky Millard.
It was Woking's first shot of the game and was more than they deserved but it gave them a renewed sense of vigour.
] However, this was short lived due to a comical decision by the ref, who sent Richards off after 59 minutes for an innocuous challenge on Simon King.
Barnet made use of the man advantage 11 minutes later when Liam Hatch lifted the ball over the Woking defence. Grazioli beat the offside trap and lobbed over Jalal for his 11th goal of the season.
Barnet looked to be cruising, but a rare mistake from Simon Clist gave Selley an opportunity. He composed himself and lashed the ball home from outside the area.

Table-topping Barnet made light work of overpowering Exeter with three goals in a fine second-half performance.
The first half was even and scrappy but Barnet took control after the break and deserved the three points.
City boss Eamonn Dolan received a rousing reception from his adoring home supporters at the start of his last game in charge of the Grecians before taking over the youth team set-up at Reading.
But it was a sad night to end his 13 years at St James Park.
There was little action in a scrappy opening. Barnet had the first attempt at goal in the tenth minute when Richard Graham's shot flew over the bar.
Exeter's best early moment came when Jake Edwards pounced on a loose ball but was unable to direct his shot on target from the edge of the box.
Edwards then fired wide from 15 yards as Exeter attempted to push forward.
The first half was poor and neither goalkeeper had a single save to make.
After the break Les Afful went close for Exeter with a shot that flew just over the bar following a half-cleared corner.
It took an hour for the first shot on target, when Exeter's Sean Canham fired a low shot at the goalkeeper.
But three minutes later Barnet were ahead when former City midfielder Dwane Lee headed home Simon Clist's corner.
Exeter substitute Sean Devine came close to an equaliser when he pulled a shot past the post from 15 yards.
Exeter thought they had pulled level when Devine headed home but the effort was ruled out for offside.
But the game was put beyond Exeter with two goals in a minute. Graham drilled a low shot into the bottom corner from eight yards following a neat move and Dean Sinclair then struck a fierce shot past Martin Rice from 15 yards.

With Guiliano Grazioli still out, Barnet made just one change from the side that beat Exeter City 3-0 in midweek, skipper Ian Hendon replacing Damien Batt at full back.
Barnet got off to an amazing start when a loping run by Ian Hendon ended with a shot into the left corner of the goal, which seemed to go through keeper, Tony Roberts’ hands.
Four minutes later and Barnet were 2-0 up. A superb cross from the left by Richie Graham was headed home by Ben Strevens. Soon after, Liam Hatch fell awkwardly and had to be carried off on a stretcher. A sad sight for Bees fans.
Lee Roache came on to replace him. Shortly after, Roache had a great chance to make it 3-0 when he was one on one with Roberts, but hit his shot straight at the Dag & Red keeper. Nicky Bailey was unlucky too when he appeared to be brought down in the penalty area, but the referee waved play on.
At the other end, Barnet’s central pair of Simon King and Ishmail Yakubu was keeping a very tight rein on Dagenham’s high scoring strike partnership of Craig Mackail-Smith and Chris Moore, who were barely getting a look in. King, in particular, was magnificent.
Half-Time 2-0
Yakubu did not come out for the second half, having received a knock and was replaced by Damien Batt who slotted in at right back, with Ian Hendon moving over to partner Simon King in the centre.
Dagenham pushed up more at the second half and started to create some chances, Moore broke through but his shot was well saved by Scott Tynan with his legs. Mickail-Smith then forced a scrambled shot home, but it was disallowed for offside.
Dagenham were leaving gaps at the back and Roache was causing trouble with his speed and eventually he broke clear following an excellent ball up the wing by Ian Hendon, Roache kept his call and slotted his shot firmly past Roberts to make it 3-0, effectively finishing the match.
Four minutes later, Nicky Bailey made it 4-0 with a wonderful 20-yard curling shot straight into the top right hand corner of the net. Three minutes later, ex-bee, Lee Flynn was adjudged to have brought down Dean Sinclair in the penalty area. The decision seemed rather harsh, but Ian Hendon stepped up to rifle the penalty home into Roberts’ top left hand corner to finish the scoring.
Another fine performance from the Bees with just about everyone playing well, Graham, Hendon, Bailey and King particularly outstanding.

Carlisle 1-3 Barnet
Nationwide Conference, Saturday 16th October 2004 @ 15:00; Brunton Park
League leaders Barnet brought Carlisle's unbeaten start to the season to an end in an excellent top-of-the-table clash.
The Londoners got off to a flying start when they were awarded a controversial penalty inside the first three minutes after Lee Andrews was judged to have handled.
Skipper Ian Hendon stroked in the penalty and further pressure from Barnet saw them add a second on the half hour.
Dean Sinclair hit a low ball across goal which Nick Bailey dummied, giving Cumbrian captain Kevin Gray no chance as he inadvertently smashed the ball into the net.
Carlisle now had little choice but to attack, and were unlucky when Tom Cowan's back-post header was tipped on to the bar by Scott Tynan.
But a minute before the beak, Chris Lumsdon laid off for Brendan McGill to fire at Tynan and force in the rebound.
Poor finishing cost Carllisle dear and they should have been ahead before Barnet struck their third.
Peter Murphy, Karl Hawley and Chris Billy all had shots saved by Tynan who, when beaten, had Hendon on hand to clear Hawley's shot off the line.
Barnet secured all three points when Dwane Lee was left unmarked to head in Simon Clist's corner with 12 minutes to go.

Barnet 4-0 York
Nationwide Conference, Saturday 23rd October 2004 @ 15:00; Underhill Stadium
Who needs Guiliano Grazioli? Without him Barnet eased past York City 4-0 - with all their goals coming from midfield and defence.
In truth, York were poor and Barnet - despite not finding their best form - played them off the park.
After 16 minutes Richard Graham zipped past Matthew Coad down the left and sent over an inviting ball.
Barnet players were queuing up to attack it, but the chance fell to Nick Bailey at the far post.
He composed himself and powered home a header, despite a last-ditch attempt to clear by York player-boss Chris Brass.
With the game falling into a rut, Dwane Lee came to the rescue with a goal of the season contender in the 36th minute.
The ball bounced out of the area and Lee, around 20 yards out, hit a first-time volley which crashed off the underside of the crossbar and into the goal.
It was a wonderful effort which gave York keeper David Stockdale no chance.
After the interval Barnet managed to lose the sloppiness which had plagued their first-half performance.
In the 65th minute Graham whipped in another testing ball which Ben Strevens headed goalwards.
Stockdale produced a fine point-blank save but the ball fell to defender Ismail Yakubu, who couldn't miss as he netted his first goal of the campaign.
Nine minutes later, man of the match Dean Sinclair pounced upon a mistake in the York defence. He strode past the keeper and slipped the ball into an unguarded net.
Despite missing Grazioli, Barnet have now scored 15 goals in four games since his Achilles injury.
This strength in depth bodes well for their promotion push.

Hereford 1-1 Barnet
Nationwide Conference, Saturday 6th November 2004 @ 15:00; Edgar Street
There was plenty of entertainment at Edgar Street as Conference leaders Barnet maintained their 12-point lead over the Bulls, who are in danger of slipping back into mid-table.
With five Conference games passed since Hereford last won, the last thing they needed was to concede an early goal.
But, on five minutes, Nicky Bailey's pass sent the division's leading scorer Giuliano Grazioli streaking away from the home defence and he held off the challenge of Bulls' skipper Tony James to drive a shot past Craig Mawson.
The home side were back on terms within three minutes, however, when David Brown received a neat pass from Graham Hyde and slipped the ball past goalkeeper Scott Tynan before driving his shot into the net.
As Hereford continued to have the better of play, Adam Stansfield should have put the Bulls ahead on 26 minutes when he only needed a touch to Brown's flick to score but failed to make any connection.
After the break, Barnet, who had been much under the cosh for most of the first period, twice went close to regaining the lead in the first six minutes.
Grazioli's header was acrobatically hooked off the line by man-of-the-match Hyde and then Mawson produced a brilliant save to keep out a point-blank effort from Bailey.
But Hereford had chances of their own and the two best fell to substitute Danny Carey-Bertram.
The youngster should have done better when he lobbed into Tynan's arms when clear of the home defence on 56 minutes, but was then unlucky two minutes from the end when his goalbound effort was hammered away from the goal-line by Ismail Yakubu.

Barnet 3-0 Accrington
Nationwide Conference, Saturday 20th November 2004 @ 15:00; Underhill Stadium
An assured Barnet side maintained their position at the top of the Nationwide Conference table with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Accrington Stanley.
Bees manager Paul Fairclough described last week's 2-1 defeat against Bath City in the FA Cup first round as a "wake up call" for his players. The team responded with a fine performance and Simon King was outstanding.
Before kick-off a multi-cultural group of local school children took to the pitch to promote the "Kick It Out" anti-racism campaign - a timely appearance after Wednesday's events in Madrid.
The home team were without midfielder Nicky Bailey because of a knee injury. Scott Tynan continued to deputise in goal for Shane Gore.
Accrington started with Paul Crichton, newly signed from Leigh RMI, in goal. The vastly experienced 36-year-old has made over 400 league appearances but was unable to keep out the Barnet attack.
The Bees started brightly and their crisp passing football paid dividends in the 21st minute.
King cut in from the left 20 yards out and cracked a low shot into the net. Captain Ian Hendon nearly extended the lead shortly afterwards, his left-foot shot curling inches past the post.
Accrington struggled to get into the game and were 2-0 down just before the hour as Richard Graham was played in on the left and put a measured drive past Crichton.
The scoring was completed five minutes from time with a defensive mix-up resulting in a Mike Flynn own goal.

Aldershot 2-3 Barnet
Nationwide Conference, Saturday 27th November 2004 @ 15:00; The Recreation Ground
The Bees beat Aldershot after a nail biting match at the Rec. The Bees opened the scoring with a goal from topscorer Grazioli! In the 7th minute! Aldershot then pulled level from Dixon the player everyone in the Barnet end was calling girl. The Bees again went in front in the 67th minute by Richard Graham running in to the area and beating the keeper from a tight angle. But Dixon again levelled for the Shots in the 76 minute but then in the 83rd minute fans favourite Simon King blasted the ball in to the back of the net from the edge of the area and a good day was had by all.
