Ryan O'Neill

Last Updated : 23-Jun-2010 by

In the latest of the series on players recently released by Barnet, we look at full back, Ryan O’Neill. Ryan arrived last season after impressing in pre season friendlies as a trialist having been released at the end of the previous season by West Ham. Ryan played for Northern Ireland at under 21 level and was related to Bees’ midfield player, Mark Hughes.

O’Neill started the season as first choice right back ahead of Joe Devera and impressed in his early performances at the club as Barnet started the season brightly, briefly topping the League Two table after winning at Northampton in early September. However, O’Neill was injured shortly after the win at Sixfields and missed the next three months, returning to the side for the Christmas home game with Northampton with Devera having moved to centre back to partner Ismail Yakubu.

However, O’Neill never really managed to get a foothold back in the first team, making just a handful of appearances after returning from injury and it was no real surprise when he was released at the end of the season, though perhaps a shame as his early season form had shown quite a bit of promise. Barnet Mad wishes Ryan all the best for the future.
