THEY PLAYED FOR BOTH: Barnet & Dagenham & Redbridge

With some clubs there are few connections in terms of players who have played for both clubs but that is definitely not the case with Dagenham & Redbridge and the Bees.

Mark Arber joined Barnet in September 1998, initially on loan, being completing a move from Tottenham for £75,000. He helped the Bees to the division 3 play-offs in 2000, but was also in the Barnet team that was relegated to the Conference in 2001. He left Barnet in 2002 to join Peterborough under rather acrimonious circumstances. He made 172 league starts for the Bees, scoring 23 goals. He joined Dagenham & Redbridge in July 2008 after a spell on loan from Stevenage. He had also had a loan spell at Dagenham while at Peterborough.

Ben Strevens was another member of the Barnet side that was relegated to the Conference in 2001. He was also in the Barnet side that won the Conference title, and promotion, in 2005. He left Barnet at the end of the following season. He made 158 league starts for the Bees, scoring 42 goals. He joined the Daggers in December 2006 and won a second Conference title with them in 2007. He joined Brentford in the summer of 2009and later played for Wycome and Gillingham before re-joining the Daggers this season.

Richard Graham joined Barnet in the summer of 2004 from Kettering Town and played a big part in Barnet’s 2005 Conference winning season with his wing skills. He made nearly 100 appearances for the Bees, scoring 7 goals before moving to Dagenham in the summer of 2007. His time at Victoria Road was hampered by injury and he had a loan spell last season at Kettering Town. He now plays for St albans City.

Cliff Akurang joined Barnet in January 2008 from Histon. He joined the Daggers from Heybridge, initially on loan, in November 2005 and scored 7 goals in 42 appearances for the Daggers before moving to Histon in May 2007. He is currently on loan at Rushden & Diamonds.

Matt Lockwood, who is currently on loan at Barnet from Colchester United, had a spell on loan at Victoria Road, earlier this season. Lockwood is in his second loan spell at Underhill.

Abu Ogogo had a loan spell last season at Barnet from Arsenal and scored once for the Bees in 9 first team appearances and was sent off twice! He joined the Daggers in the summer.

Darren Currie joined Barnet in the summer of 1998 after being released by Plymouth Argyle. He made 127 league appearances for the Bees, scoring 18 goals and helped the club to the division three play-offs in 2000. He left to join Wycombe in 2001 following Barnet’s relegation to the Conference for £200,000. He joined Chesterfield in the summer of 2008 after being released by Luton Town. He is currently on loan at Dagenham & Redbridge.

A number of players who played for Barnet in the years running up to their first promotion to the league in 1991, and in their first spell in the league, have also played for the Daggers. Gary Blackford joined Barnet from Fisher and was in the Barnet squad that won promotion to the league in 1991. He joined Redbridge Forest the following season. Redbridge merged with Dagenham FC to make up D&R. He scored 19 times in 111 first team appearances for the Daggers before moving to Enfield in 1994.

Mick Bodley joined Barnet from Northampton in 1989 and helped Barnet to both promotion to the league in 1991 and promotion to division two in 1993. He scored 3 goals in 69 appearances for the Bees. He left soon after to join Southend. He joined Dagenham in August 1999 before moving in 2000 to Canvey Island.

Derek Payne joined Barnet from Hayes in July 1991 and helped the Bees win promotion to division two in 1993. He scored 6 goals in 51 appearances for Barnet before moving to Southend in 1993. He joined the Daggers from Peterborough in 1999 and left the following year to join Borehamwood.

Dominic Naylor joined Barnet in 1991 and helped the club win promotion to division two in 1993. He made 51 league appearances for the Bees before moving to Plymouth. He joined Dagenham in 1999 but left the following year to join Basingstoke.

He scored 38 goals in 124 appearances for Barnet before moving to Boston in September 2000. He then moved to Dagenham in October 2001 before joining Farnborough in June 2002.

The last player to move directly from Dagenham to Barnet was Tresor Kandol. He joined the Daggers from Thurrock in May 2005 and then moved to Barnet in January 2006 for £50,000. He scored on his debut for Barnet in a 1-0 home win over Shrewsbury and scored 10 goals in 29 league goals for the Bees before moving to Leeds in 2007. He has played on loan at Millwall and Charlton Athletic.
