Barnet beat Blue Square South side, Thurrock 2-1 in the opening pre-season friendly last night. Danny Hart and Jordan Parkes scored the Bees’ goals to put the visitors 2-0 up, but former Barnet striker, Lee Roache pulled a goal back for Thurrock.
Barnet included 11 new signings and five trialists in the side. Amongst them were Daniel Leach, hoping for a new contract this season, former Port Vale centre back, Luke Prosser and former Swindon Town winger, Mark Marshall, who had a spell on loan last season at Hereford United.
Cliff Akurang, who was released at the end of last season, did not play for Thurrock, who included three other ex Bees apart from Roache; Craig Pope, Lee Flynn and Paolo Vernazza. Barnet’s latest signing, centre back, Danny Dennehy was unlucky not to score as his saw a second half header come crashing back off of the crossbar. Next up is Arsenal on Saturday.
