Scarborough made heavy weather of a game in which they could easily have taken full points.
Their efforts were repeatedly thwarted in front of goal by hard-working Barnet who twice came close to snatching a winner in the closing minutes.
Barnet struggled hard at times in the first half as Scarborough stepped up the pressure but they found the visitors defence formidable thanks to Ismail Yakabu and Lee Gledhill.
Scarborough's man of the match, David Pounder was in fine form from the kick-off, going close with a close-range volley which goalkeeper Lee Harrison had to dive full length to save, then he found the net on the half only to have his success ruled offside.
At the other end Ben Strevens master-minded some great chances for Barnet and Mark Gower constantly proved a dangerman as the ball swung fast from end to end.
Junior Agogo had two good chances and created others, as he led Barnet's bid to take the lead before the break, his best being a great ball which crashed into the sidenetting.
But by half time Barnet were struggling to absorb Scarborough's pressure as Pounder and Shaun Rennison created good chances.
Barnet's attacking found new life after the break with Agogo raising their hopes with a volley which scraped over the bar but it was Scarborough who took the lead in the 54th minute when a well-placed free-kick by Jason Blunt found Keith Scott on the spot to crack the ball from the underside of the crossbar.
The Seasiders almost increased their lead a minute later when a drive by Karl Rose was desperately cleared in the crowded goalmouth by Neil Midgley.
Gower had a chance blocked on the line and Yakabu forced Scarborough keeper to jump high to save as Barnet pushed hard to get back into the game.
They succeeded in the 75th minute when Agogo produced a picture goal from the edge of the box after being set up with a cross from the right.
Scarborough had further chances when four players tried in vain to crack the Barnet defence before keeper Harrison dived and smothered the ball.
Barnet worked hard and almost found a winner through John Doolan who put the ball narrowly over the bar and Strevens produced two fine chances which tested in-form keeper Andy Woods to the limit
