Chester and Barnet shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Saunders Honda Stadium which provided both sides with a precious point in their efforts to beat the drop.
Chester, with their superior goal difference, are effectively safe now, while Barnet have enough games remaining and should avoid relegation.
The visitors will probably be feeling they should have taken all three points, having been denied on several occasions by Chester keeper Chris MacKenzie.
The home side had started well and should have taken the lead on six minutes when Gregg Blundell's cross was deflected into the path of Jake Edwards, and he had plenty of time and space, but contrived to volley the ball over from only six yards out.
Ten minutes later a long ball over the top sent Edwards clear and this time the striker was on target with his effort, but was denied by a fine save by keeper Ross Flitney.
The visitors went close again soon after as Liam Hatch beat MacKenzie to Dean Sinclair's free-kick, only for his header to just clear the bar.
Deep in first half added time Hatch had a great opportunity to open the scoring when clean through on goal, but his well struck shot was beaten away by MacKenzie.
The visitors began to look the more threatening and, on the hour mark, Andy Hessenthaler's cross was headed just wide by Tresor Kandol.
Ten minutes from time Nicky Bailey had the best chance to clinch the points when he was sent clear, but he was denied by another fantastic save from MacKenzie.
Chester survived several other scares, as Tom Curtis cleared the ball off the line following a goalmouth scramble, and claims for a penalty were turned down as Hatch went down in the box.
