Barnet v Bradford City match report

The first half started poorly, but started to liven up after half an hour, when Mauro Vilhete had a shot well saved by Bradford's Scottish goalkeeper Joe McLaughlin. Bradford's only real chance in the first period was from a cross-come-shot from Luke Oliver, but Jake Cole managed to stretch enough to tip the ball round the post.

The second half however, was a livelier affair. On a rare occasion Jordan Parkes managed to get forward for the Bees, the fullback had a shot that sailed just wide of Bradford's goal just a matter of minutes after the restart. The home side now looked on top, and almost took the lead again, this time when Vilhete played a delightful ball across the face of the goal that only needed a touch from Mark Marshall to go into the net, but McLaughlin managed to get a vital hand onto the ball to put off the winger.

Throughout the second half, Ricky Holmes seemed to look determined to get his name on the score sheet. He almost did after a dazzling run from the half way line, but his final shot skimmed the crossbar and went out for a goal kick.

Just when the Bees looked like they were buzzing, disaster struck. 30 seconds after Ricky Holmes missed his opportunity, Leon Osborne found the ball at his feet inside the Barnet penalty area, and kept his nerve to slot the ball into the bottom corner of the goal to put the away side in the lead. The goal came totally out of the blue and against the run of play, so when it came it seamed like the whole stadium fell silent with disbelief for a moment, before a deafening roar from the away faithful.

With just over 20 minutes of the match remaining, another Bradford counter attack led to another goal. A long dropkick up field from Joe McLaughlin fell nicely to Tom Adeyemi who shrugged off a challenge from Anwar Uddin before sending Cole the wrong way to double the advantage for the Bantams.

That was the last of three consecutive home games for the Bees, who now have to go up to fellow strugglers Stockport County next Saturday.

Man of the Match: Tom Adeyemi
