Barnet 3 Darlington 0

Barnet returned to winning ways this weekend with a 3-0 victory at home to the League's bottom club, Darlington. After last Saturday's defeat at Burton, Joe Devera returned to the side at right back, while Albert Adomah and John O'Flynn were restored to the team in place of Nicky Deverdics and Jake Hyde.

However, any neutral at the match would have been hard pushed to know which was the bottom club and who were the side pushing for a play-off place in a very disappointing and scrappy first half which was spoiled by a very poor, whistle happy showing by the referee.

Barnet had Paul Furlong booked early in the match, while Darlington debutant, James Collins was lucky not be red carded when he was guilty of elbowing Gary Breen. Collins escaped with just a yellow card and it was the visitors who came closest to scoring just before the break when a fine shot by Jamie Chandler brought out a superb save by Bees' keeper, Jake Cole.

Barnet continued to struggle in the early stages of the second half, but the match turned following the substitution of Bees' captain, Micah Hyde and a strangely ineffective, John O'Flynn. They were replaced by Nicky Deverdics and Jake Hyde and within two minutes, the Bees had taken the lead, Kenny Gillet made an important tackle out on the left and fed Yannick Bolasie, whose excellent cross was headed home by Ismail YAKUBU to give the home side a perhaps, undeserved lead just past the hour.

However, Darlington to their credit, continued to plug away, not looking like a team with just one win all season and at times pushed the Bees back in their hunt for an equaliser. Albert Adomah almost made it 2-0 with a fine shot that hit the post, but Jake Cole had to be at his best to save a shot from another Darlington debutant, David Davis, from point blank range.

With just under 10 minutes remaining, Adomah broke clear on the right and played a superb ball across field to Nicky DEVERDICS who found himself in acres of space and calmly stroked a fine shot into the corner of the net to give Barnet a 2-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later, the home side wrapped up the three points when Deverdics, playing superbly after coming on as a substitute, fed Jake Hyde and the former Swindon striker crossed for Yannick BOLASIE to slide home with Darlington keeper, Liversedge well beaten.

In the end, the Bees were comfortable winners but they were very flattered by the final score which was hard on a Darlington side that competed well for an hour before rather falling apart towards the end. Ian Hendon has built a squad which has strength in depth and can call upon players with the ability of Deverdics, Jake Hyde and Albert Jarrett who can come on and change things around when the team aren't playing particularly well. This was Barnet's third successive win at home and another clean sheet for Jake Cole and the Bees remain unbeaten at home in the league this season. The win moves the Bees up to 6th and back into the play-off places, but next Saturday, there is another difficult away trip; this time to fast improving Chesterfield. Darlington remain rooted to the bottom with just 5 points.
