Barnet and Accrington played out a soulless goalless draw at Underhill this afternoon. Barnet manager, Lawrie Sanchez played Steve Kabba and Ricky Holmes up front with Izale McLeod missing the game through suspension, while Darren Dennehy made his first start of the season at centre back in place of Exodus Geohaghon, who has reportedly departed from the club.
Barnet started the game very poorly andAccringtonlooked the better of the two sides in what was a very drab first half. However, Barnet were given an advantage when on 42 minutes, Charlie Barnett was sent off for a bad foul on Steve Kabba.Accrington, though, still finished the half the stronger.
HT: Bees 0 Accy 0
Barnet improved somewhat in the second half but still struggled to create chances. The best chance fell to Mark Marshall after Murdoch, the Accrington keeper, spilled a Ricky Holmes shot at the feet of Bees’ sub, Charlie Taylor whose shot fell for Marshall who sliced his shot wide. A free kick just outside the area brought a fine shot from Mark Byrne but it was unfortunate to strike Ricky Holmes and fly out of danger. In fact the visitors created the two best chances of the half and actually hit the post, but, in truth, a goalless draw was fitting for a dreadful game which saw Accrington’s Kevin Long sent off just before the end for a professional foul onTaylor. Al in all, a match to forget made worse by Accrington’s appalling tactics.
