Accrington Stanley 3 Barnet 1

Last Updated : 30-Apr-2011 by

Barnet travelled to Accrington with a nearly fully fit squad and Oxford loanees, Sam Deering and Jack Midson back in the side after Easter Monday’s match against their parent club. As expected, Clovis Kamdjo has kept his place in the side after his fine performance against Oxford where he scored his first goal for the club.

Barnet got off to the worst possible start when Jimmy Ryan put the home side ahead after just 4 minutes. However, the Bees were not behind for long. Mark MARSHALL scored three minutes later with a shot from just outside the penalty area.

There were no further goals in a wind affected first half, but scores from other relegation affected scores were not looking too good for the Bees. Northampton and Lincoln were both winning 1-0 at half time, while Hereford and Burton Albion were drawing. A crucial 45 minutes awaited the Bees in the second half.

Disaster hit the Bees 10 minutes into the second half when Ryan scored again thanks to a deflected free kick, a goal which meant that as things stood, Barnet were relegated along with Stockport County. Ten minutes later and Ryan completed his hat trick with Barnet looking doomed, though news came through that Oxford had equalised at home to Lincoln. Further news came that oxford had won 2-1 against Lincoln, while other results mean that the last relegation place is between us and the Imps. Next Saturday, will be like a mirror image of last May’s home game with Rochdale. Barnet will be in the same position as Grimsby Town were then. If we beat Port Vale and Lincoln fail to win their last game at home to Aldershot, then we will stay up. If we fail to win or if Lincoln should win, then the Bees will be relegated. It is going to be a long seven days next week.
