Matthew Heywood joined the club from Brentford in June 2008. He made 34 appearances in season 2007/08 for Brentford, scoring 1 goal. He joined the Bees from Bristol City in 2006. Michael Leary joined Grimsby in July 2009 from Barnet. Leary joined the Bees from Luton Town in 2007. While at Luton, he had loan spells with Bristol Rovers, Walsall, Torquay and Brentford. He was sent off twice in season 2007/08, but his discipline seemed to improve following his move to centre back and his being given the temporary captaincy at the end of the season. Adrian Forbes signed for Grimsby in July 2009. He had a loan spell at Blundell Park last season. He began his career at Norwich City where he made 112 league appearances, scoring 8 goals before joining Luton in 2001 for £60,000. He made 72 league appearances for Luton, scoring 14 goals before moving to Swansea in 2004 making 69 league appearances and scoring 11goals for the Welsh club before joining Blackpool in 2006. Barry Conlon is a much travelled striker who joined Grimsby Town in the summer of 2009 from Bradford City after an initial loan period with the mariners where he played a big part in helping them stave off relegation, scoring 5 goals in 8 games. He joined Bradford City in 2007 from Mansfield Town, scoring 17 goals in two seasons at Valley Parade. He had spells at QPR, Manchester City, Southend and York City before moving to Darlington in 2001 where he made over 100 appearances in three seasons scoring 42 goals.
