Barnet FC (formerly Avenue) and Barnet Alston merged in 1912 to become Barnet & Alston FC and the Barnet Alston ground, Underhill became the new club's ground. Barnet & Alston joined the Athenian League that year and, following the resumption of competitive football after World War One, in 1919, the club became Barnet FC.

The new club did not take part in the Middlesex Senior Cup until the 1920/21 season when, having got through the qualifying rounds, the club defeated Hampstead Town 3-0 at Cricklewood Lane in the 1st round with Alf Jennings scoring his last ever goal for the club and defeated Wealdstone 2-0 at Underhill in the 2nd round to reach the semi-final here they went down 2-1 at Enfield.

In 1921/22, Barnet went one better and reached the final. In the 1st round, they defeated Hampstead 1-0 at Underhill and then beat Southall 2-1 in the 2nd round. Goals from George Sparrow and A & H Stringer saw them into the final by defeating Botwell Mission (later Hayes FC) 3-0 in the semi-final at Enfield. The club were expected to lift the trophy for the first time but went down to a surprising 2-1 defeat against RAF Uxbridge in the final, H Stringer scoring.

In 1922/23, Barnet went down to a shock defeat away at STD (Sunbeam – Talbot – Darracq ) Ltd, a car works team who played at East Acton Lane in the opening round, losing 2-1. Barnet played with only 10 men throughout when their striker, Cornett failed to appear and George Sparrow missed the game as well.

In 1923/24, Barnet hammered Harrow Weald in the opening round, winning 10-2 at Underhill, George Sparrow scoring five times but in the 2nd round they went down to another shock defeat, this time losing 4-1 to a London League Division 2 club, Savoy Hotel who played in Southall and gave a dreadful display with no excuse of only having 10 men this time.

In 1924/25, Barnet reached the 3rd round after defeating Great Western Railway 6-0 in the 1st round, Sparrow and Taffy O'Callaghan, on a season long loan from Spurs, both scoring twice and 6-1 at home to Uxbridge with Sparrow grabbing a hat trick. However, they lost 4-0 to Hampstead in the 3rd round.

In 1925/26, Barnet gained revenge over STD, winning 7-0 at Underhill in the 1st round, Sparrow grabbing a hat trick. In the 2nd round, they defeated Hampstead 4-3 at Underhill before a 3-1 semi-final win over Tufnell Park, with Sparrow scoring twice, took them into the final.

The final was played at Griffin Park, home of Brentford FC, but Barnet lost 2-1 against Botwell Mission. George Sparrow scored the Barnet goal. The Barnet team in the final was; Burr, Fletcher, Garrett, Casey, Hughes, Meadows, Deeks, Snaith, Sparrow, Rogers, Sutton.

In 1926/27, Barnet defeated Hanwell Town 9-4 in the 1st round, Davies & Sparrow both getting hat tricks, but went out in the 2nd round, losing 2-1 at home to Southall.

In 1927/28, Barnet were drawn to play away at Spartan League Division 1 club, Lyons AC in the 1st round and were winning 2-1 when the match was abandoned due to poor conditions. When the match was replayed, Barnet went down to another shock defeat, losing 3-2 with Arthur Morris and George Sparrow scoring for Barnet.

In 1928/29, the club progressed through the early rounds of the Middlesex Senior Cup defeating Staines 13-3 in the 1st round at Underhill with Morris getting 5, new striker, J Oyston 4 and Walter Martin a hat trick. The other goal was scored by Lester Finch in his first season with the first team. In the 2nd round, Barnet finally defeated Hampstead, winning 4-2 at Underhill, Morris scoring a hat trick and Lester Finch one.

Barnet went out of the Middlesex Senior Cup at the semi-final stage, losing 1-0 to Southall at Hampstead in a replay after the original tie, played at Wealdstone, had ended goalless.

In 1929/30, Barnet again reached the semi-finals after defeating Tufnell Park (5-1) at home in the 1st round, Fred MacDonald scoring a hat trick and Hampstead (2-1) at Cricklewood Lane with Morris and Finch scoring. However, the Bees lost the semi-final 3-1 to Wealdstone, also played at Hampstead's ground.

For the third season running, Barnet were knocked out at the semi-final stage in 1930/31. After thrashing Hounslow Town 9-2 in the 1st round, with Arthur Morris scoring four, the Bees then defeated Tufnell Park 6-2 in the 2nd round with Jack Richardson, Arthur Morris and Lester Finch all scoring two apiece. However, Hampstead won easily in the semi-final replay winning 6-1 after the original tie, played at Finchley, ended in a 2-2 draw.

In 1931/32, Barnet finally lifted the Middlesex Senior Cup trophy, although it was in controversial fashion. After negotiating their way through the opening rounds, beating Hendon Town at their Welsh Harp ground (4-1) and Finchley (1-0), the Bees reached the final with a 3-2 win over rivals, Enfield in the semi-final played at Finchley.

Their opponents in the final were London League Premier Division side, Park Royal, who won their league that season but who Barnet were expected to defeat but in the final at Finchley, Park Royal won 2-0. However, it transpired that they have played two ineligible players and, following a protest by Barnet, the match was ordered to be re-played, again at Finchley's ground. Barnet won the re-played final 4-2 with two goals by Arthur Morris and one apiece from Jack Richardson and Fred MacDonald. The Barnet team that day was; Jones, Hughes, Garrett, Snaith, Wade, Martin, Constable, MacDonald, Morris, Richardson, Finch.

The following season, 1932/33, Barnet won the Middlesex Senior Cup for the second time. In the opening round, Barnet, ironically, were drawn at home to Park Royal and in a close game won 3-2, Arthur Morris scoring twice. Deadly rivals, Enfield were defeated 5-0 in the 2nd round with Morris grabbing a hat trick and two Lester Finch goals were enough to gain Barnet a 2-1 win over Hoxton Manor, of the Spartan League Division Two East, in the semi-finals to get through to the final where they met another Spartan League side, Staines FC at Hampstead. Surprisingly, Barnet were held to a 1-1 draw but won the replay 3-1 with goals from Finch, Richardson and Don Westoby. The Barnet side was; Jones, Hughes, Garrett, Marchant, Snaith, Sutton, Pullen, MacDonald, Westoby, Richardson, Finch.

However, Barnet failed to make it a hat trick of cup successes in 1933/34, going out at the semi-final stage 2-1 to Golders Green (formerly Hampstead) at Finchley, Lester Finch scoring. Barnet had defeated works side AEC (Associated Equipment Company) Southall 8-2 in the 1st round (Bill Charlton scoring a hat trick ) and Spartan League, Lyons Club in the 2nd round, winning 4-3. Barnet nearly threw the game away having lead 4-0 at one point.

In 1934/35, Barnet went out in the opening round to Hayes FC (formerly Botwell Mission) 3-2 at Church Road, Sonny Weightman scoring both Barnet goals.

In 1935/36, Barnet got through the opening round with an 11-0 win over Pinner of the Spartan League Division One, with hat tricks for Arthur Morris & Lester Finch and two goals apiece for Jack Braithwaite & Denis Kelleher, Freddie Garrett also scoring. The Barnet side was; Hine, Wade, Cooper, Burton, McCarthy, Richardson, Garrett, Braithwaite, Morris, Kelleher, Finch. However, Barnet lost 4-1 to fellow Athenian League side, Uxbridge Town in the 2nd round.

In 1936/37, Barnet entered into the competition at the 2nd round stage, defeating Isthmian League, Tufnell Park 5-1 with Lester Finch scoring twice. In the semi-final, Barnet lost 3-1 to Hayes.

In 1937/38, Barnet won their 1st round match 13-2 against Southern Amateur League club, Old Latymerians at Underhill and there were hat tricks for Lester Finch and Ian MacFarlane, a Scottish amateur international striker. Barnet won their 2nd round match 3-0 at home to Uxbridge but were thrown out of the tournament for playing an ineligible player, Norman Davey, who had recently arrived from St Albans and who had played for them in a Herts Shield match that season. Rules around County tournaments at the time, precluded players from playing for more than one team in a season even if it was in a tournament played under the auspices of a different county association, as was the case in this instance.

Clearly though, the decision to expel Barnet from the competition seems to have piqued them because the 1938/39 season was the first season that the club didn't play in the Middlesex Senior Cup since the 1920/21 season and, though the club continued to play in the London Senior Cup throughout WW2 and in the post war period, Barnet entered the Herts Senior Cup in 1938/39 and continued to play in the Herts competition right up until last season (2014/15).

This coming season, though, will see the club play in the Middlesex Senior Cup for the first time since the Uxbridge game in 1938 and have been drawn to play against Isthmian League Premier Division club, Staines Town in round two. The last time Barnet played against a club from Staines in this tournament they won the trophy, which was also their last success in this tournament.
