Chester ran out 3-1 winners at Underhill on Saturday despite having Stuart Drummond dismissed in the 36th minute and Fairclough is hoping his team learned something from the experience.
He said: "I told my players before the game they were playing the best team in the league and that was demonstrated on the pitch.
"Chester have a very functional group of players. They all did their job and they are what we are trying to be at this level.
"I won't rant and rave but I'm disappointed because we've made progress over the last few weeks.
"I think we've got the ability but not the discipline. I'm talking about sticking to the plan and doing the right thing over 90 minutes and that's to do with personalities."
