Tonight, Barnet entertain
Watford at Underhill in the Carling Cup. Barnet have not won a match in this competition since winning 2-0 at
Cardiff City in August 2006 and it is the first home Carling Cup match since the 2
nd round match against Plymouth Argyle in 2005.
Both sides began their league campaigns on Saturday with Barnet losing 1-0 at Lincoln City after dominating the first half but conceding a second half goal after an error by keeper, Jake Cole.
The Hornets were held 1-1 in their opening Championship match at Vicarage Road. Summer signing, Danny Graham from Carlisle, put Watford ahead from close range but they had to settle eventually for a point in Malky Mackay's first league match as manager following the departure over the summer of previous manager, Brendan Rodgers to Reading.
Barnet will still be without last year's leading scorer, John O'Flynn and Gary Breen is unlikely to play. Summer signing, Jake Hyde could make his debut up front if Hendon decides to play with two orthodox strikers up front and play Albert Adomah on the right. Joe Devera could start at right back instead of Ryan O'Neill.
Watford will be without midfield player, Ross Jenkins who will be playing for the England under 20 side against Montenegro. Slovenian, Jure Travner could make his debut.
Barnet striker, Paul Furlong will be keen to score against his old side tonight. He scored 37 goals for the Hornets between 1992 and 1994 before moving to Chelsea for ₤2.3m. Bees' captain, Micah Hyde scored 24 league goals in 252 league appearances for the Hornets between 1997 and 2004.
The Bees will want to put Saturday's defeat behind them, but it will be a difficult match against much higher level opposition. However, Barnet have a good record in cup matches against Championship sides in recent seasons and could spring a surprise, but I think that without John O'Flynn, they might find Watford a hard team to break down. If Gary Breen plays then he can give the Bees authority at the back, but I am going to predict, sadly, a 2-1 win for Watford, who have not failed to get through to the 2nd round of the Carling Cup since 2002.
