Barnet and Hartlepool first met in 1993/94 when both sides were in Division 2 (now League One) of the Football League. Nicky Evans scored as Hartlepool won 2-1 at the Victoria Ground. Barnet won 3-2 at Underhill with Paul Wilson scoring twice from the penalty spot and Danny Dichio scoring as well for the Bees. At the end of the season, both clubs were relegated to Division 3 (now League Two).
In 1994/95, Barnet completed a league double over Hartlepool winning 1-0 at Hartlepool, Dougie Freedman scoring and 4-0 at Underhill, Freedman scoring a hat trick and Mickey Tomlinson also scoring.
In 1995/96, the game at Hartlepool ended goalless but the Bees won 5-1 at Underhill, Lee Hodges scoring a hat trick and Sean Devine getting two. Hartlepool won 4-0 at home in 1996/97 and Devine scored the only goal of the game at Underhill.
In 1997/98, Hartlepool won 2-0 at home and the game at Underhill ended in a 1-1 draw, Devine scoring again. Barnet reach the play-offs that season.
In 1998/99, Hartlepool won at Underhill for the first time winning 2-0 and the match at Hartlepool was drawn 2-2, Mark Arber and Marlon King scoring for the Bees. In 1999/00, Barnet gain made the play-offs. Hartlepool won 3-0 at home and the game at Underhill ended 1-1, Ken Charlery scoring for the Bees.
In 2000/01, Hartlepool completed the double over Barnet for the first time, hammering the Bees 6-1 at home, their biggest ever win over Barnet, Tony Richards scoring and won 3-1 at Underhill, Tony Cottee scoring for the Bees as the club fell away alarmingly and were eventaully relegated back to the Conference.
In 2006/07, the clubs met again with Barnet having been promoted to League Two in 2005 and Hartlepool having come down from League One. Barnet did the double over Hartlepool with a 1-0 win at Hartlepool, thanks to a Barry Cogan goal and a 2-1 win at Underhill, Adam Birchall and Jason Puncheon scoring for the Bees in the last meeting between the two clubs.
