This will be the first meeting between the Bees and FC Halifax in their present form, but Barnet and Halifax Town met a number of times in the past. The two clubs first met in the 1991/92 season following Barnet’s promotion from the Conference the previous season. The Bees won 3-0 at Underhill with goals from Roger Willis, Gary Bull and Kenny Lowe. Halifax won 3-1 in the return game at the Shay with Frank Murphy scoring for the Bees.

In 1992/93, Barnet won 2-1 at the Shay with both goals from Brian Stein and the game at Underhill ended goalless. At the end of the season, Barnet were promoted and Halifax were relegated.

The two sides next met in 1998/99 following Halifax’s return to the league and Barnet’s relegation back to the bottom tier in 1994. Both games were drawn; 1-1 at The Shay, Ken Charlery scoring and 2-2 at Underhill, Uno Onwere and Scott McGleish scoring for the Bees.

In 1999/00, Halifax won 1-0 at Underhill but two Marlon King goals gave the Bees a 2-1 win at the Shay. The following season, a John Doolan penalty won the game for the Bees at Underhill, but a 3-0 defeat at the Shay helped Barnet go down at the end of the season. The following season, Halifax were relegated to the conference as well.

In 2002/03, the game at Underhill ended goalless, but Barnet won 4-2 at the Shay with goals from Danny Brown, Greg Heald and Junior Agogo (2). The following season, the Bees completed the double over Halifax for the first time, winning 4-1 at Underhill with Guilano Grazioli scoring a hat trick and Chris Plummer scoring the other goal and winning 2-1 at the Shay with goals from Grazioli and Ben Strevens.

In 2004/05, the Bees won 3-2 early on in the season at the Shay after being 2-0 down at half time. A Richard Graham cross was turned into his own net by Halifax defender, Haslam and then Liam Hatch equalised before a stunning Grazioli shot from over 30 yards gave Barnet the points.

In the return game at Underhill, the following April, Barnet won 3-1 after being a goal down with goals from Strevens, Simon King and Grazioli, the win clinching the Conference title and promotion back to the Football League.
