A look at previous encounters at Underhill between the Bees & the Daggers

Tomorrow night, the Bees are at home to Dagenham & Redbridge. Here, we look at the meetings between the two clubs that have been played at Underhill.

The two clubs first met in season 2001-02 following Barnet's relegation to the Conference in 2000-01. They met in March, at Underhill, and the Bees were on a run of three games in a row following the appointment of Peter Shreeves as manager and Martin Allen as coach. The Daggers started the game well and took the game to Barnet as the Bees looked as though they were going to be overrun, but against the run of play Frazer Toms scored a fine goal from 15 yards which seemed to somewhat deflate the visitors. In the second half, the Bees were in control and on 52 minutes, Lee Gledhill put a cross over which Daggers' keeper, Tony Roberts could only punch out and it fell to Mark Gower who hit a stunning volley into the back of the net to put Barnet 2-0 up. Gower's goal was later to voted goal of the season by the supporters' club. A superb run by Wayne Purser led to Roberts handling the ball outside the area but Neil Midgley was on hand to roll the ball into an empty net for the third goal. Mark Gower scored his second goal of the night following a Mark Arber penalty which had been pushed out by Roberts as Barnet ran out 4-0 winners. The Barnet side was; Harrison, Gledhill, Flynn, Gower, Pluck, Arber, Berkley, Doolan (Bell), Purser (Oshitola), Toms, Midgley (Niven).

The following season, the two clubs met at Underhill on Boxing Day and after D&R had gone ahead early in the game, Greg Heald equalised with a fine header following a splendid Mark Gower cross. The game seemed to be heading for a draw when D&R were reduced to 10 men late in the game and Junior Agogo ran on to a long through ball from on-loan, Ian Hendon to give the Bees a 2-1 win.

In 2003-04, D&R gained their only win so far over Barnet at Underhill, winning 4-2 with former Barnet keeper, Danny Naisbitt giving a fine performance. Barnet centre back, Chris Plummer was sent off for hitting Naisbitt and Barnet lost despite two goals from Giuliano Grazioli.

Graz missed the following season's match through injury but it didn't stop Barnet romping away with an emphatic 5-0 win with goals from Lee Roache, Nicky Bailey, Ben Strevens and two from Ian Hendon. Bailey's goal, a David Beckham style chip from over 25 yards, won the Barnet supporters club goal of the season award. At the end of the season, Barnet were promoted back to the league. The two clubs didn't meet again until 2007/08, following D&R's promotion in 2007. The two clubs again met on Boxing Day as they had in 2002 and Barnet won 3-1 with Jason Puncheon scoring a hat trick.

Last season, the two sides met in early 2009 and the match ended in a 1-1 draw. John O'Flynn put the Bees ahead early on, but a dreadful mistake by Ran Kadoch, in the Barnet goal, cost the Bees two points as Mark Nwokeji equalised for the Daggers.
