Barnet Mad looks at previous meetings between the Bees & the Railwaymen
Barnet and Crewe have met each other 8 times with Crewe winning 5 times, Barnet twice and one draw. The first time the two clubs met was in 1991, at Underhill, on the first day of the Division 4 season of the Football League and Barnet’s first ever league match following their promotion from the Conference. Crewe won 7-4 in an amazing first match with Mark Carter and Gary Bull scoring the Barnet goals. The Barnet side that day was; Phillips, Blackford, Cooper, Horton, Bodley, Johnson, Showler, Carter, Bull, Lowe, Evans. Subs: Murphy, Eddie Stein.
In the return at Gresty Road, on Boxing Day, Crewe completed the double by beating the Bees 3-0.
The following season, Barnet won 3-2 at Underhill with two goals from Mark Carter and one from Gary Bull. The Barnet side that day was; Phillips, Huxford (Hunt), Naylor, Howell, Barnett, Horton, Payne, Carter, Bull, Lowe, Showler (B Stein).
In the return, on the last day of the season, Crewe won 4-1 with Carter scoring for the Bees, who had already won promotion to Division 2.
Last season, Crewe were the first side to win a league match at Underhill in 2009/10, winning 2-1, Dean Sinclair scoring for the Bees. At Gresty Road, the match ended in a 2-2 draw, the first ever draw between the two sides. John O’Flynn and Matt Lockwood scored for the Bees.
Early this season, Barnet were hammered 7-0 by Crewe at Gresty Road, Barnet’s biggest defeat since returning to the league in 2005.
With Martin Allen at the helm, relegation threatened Barnet won the return at Underhill 2-1 with goals from Izale McLeod and Daniel Leach, his first for the club. The three points were to be very valuable inded as Barnet stayed up at the end of the season by just a point. Allen shocked everyone at Underhill by resigning a few days after the Crewe game to take over at Notts County.
