The Barnet side that day was; Phillips, Blackford, Cooper, Horton, Bodley, Johnson, Showler, Carter, Bull, Lowe, Evans. Subs: Murphy, Eddie Stein.

In the return at Gresty Road, on Boxing Day, Crewe completed the double by beating the Bees 3-0.

The following season, Barnet won 3-2 at Underhill with two goals from Mark Carter and one from Gary Bull. The Barnet side that day was; Phillips, Huxford (Hunt), Naylor, Howell, Barnett, Horton, Payne, Carter, Bull, Lowe, Showler (B Stein).

In the return, on the last day of the season, Crewe won 4-1 with Carter scoring for the Bees, who had already won promotion to Division 2.

In December, Crewe became the first side to defeat Barnet in the league at Underhill this season winning 2-1. Dean Sinclair, back at Barnet on a loan spell from Charlton, scored the Bees' goal.
