A look at previous meetings between the Bees & the Brewers

Tomorrow will see the first meeting between Barnet and Burton since the Brewers were promoted to League Two in 2009 after winning the Blue Square premier title. However, the two clubs first began playing each other for league points over 40 years ago.

Barnet first met Burton in 1965-66 which was Barnet's first season in the Southern League. They won 4-0 at Underhill with 2 goals from Don Whyte, 1 from Les Eason and the other an own goal. The return at Eton Park was a goalless draw. Both clubs were promoted to the Southern League Premier at the end of the season.

The following season, Barnet lost 2-1 at Burton with Oxley scoring for the Bees. Barnet won 30 at Underhill with goals from Roach, Eason and Roger Figg.

In 1967-68, Barnet completed the double over the Brewers winning 6-0 at home, Les Eason scoring a hat trick and Peter Anderson, Tony Turley and Roger Figg scoring a goal apiece and then won 4-2 at Eton Park, Eason scoring twice and Anderson and Keith Smith scoring one apiece.

In 1968/69, both matches ended in 3-1 wins for the home side, Colin Powell, Billy Meadows and Stevens scoring for the Bees at Underhill, while Les eason scored the only goal at Eton Park.

In 1969/70, Barnet again completed the double over the Brewers, winning 2-0 at Eton Park with goals from Les Eason and Thorne. In the match at Underhill, the Bees won by a staggering margin of 10-0. Billy Meadows and Les Eason both scored 4 goals apiece, with Gregory and Lawlor scoring the other two goals. Maybe it was not surprising that Burton finished bottom of the Southern League Premier Division that season with just 15 points from 42 matches.

In 1972, Burton were promoted back to the Premier Division and fixtures between the two clubs resumed. The match at Eton Park ended in a 1-1 draw with Ricky George scoring. George and Dave Bibby were the scorers in a 2-1 Barnet win at Underhill. At the end of the season, Burton finished 2nd from bottom of the Premier Division and were relegated.

The following season, Burton bounced back straight away, winning promotion back to the Premier Division and completed the double over the Bees, the next season, winning 1-0 at Eton Park and 2-0 at Underhill. At the end of 1974/75, the Bees finished 2nd from bottom and were relegated.

The next time that the two clubs met was in 1989, when barnet drew the Brewers in the 4th Qualifying round of the FA Cup. The match at Eton Park was drawn 2-2 with Bees' centre back scoring two own goals!! Gary Bull and Geoff Cooper scored for the Bees. Bull scored the only goal of the replay at Underhill.

In 2002, the two clubs resumed playing league matches, following Burton's promotion to the Conference and Barnet's relegation from the Football League. Goals from Mark Arber, Junior Agogo and Mark Gower gave Barnet a 3-0 win at Eton park, while the match at Underhill ended in a 2-2 draw, Danny Brown and John Doolan scoring for Barnet.

The following season, Barnet completed the double over Burton, winning 3-2 at Eton Park with two goals from Guiliano Grazioli and an own goal by Terry Henshaw. In the return at Underhill, Barnet were pushing hard for a play-off place and needed to win to maintain a realistic chance. After falling behind to a first half goal, Barnet eventually won 2-1 with goals from Liam Hatch and an Ian Hendon penalty. Interestingly, current Barnet manager, Ian Hendon's penalty came about after Greg Pearson, on loan from west Ham, was fouled in the penalty area. Pearson now plays for the Brewers.

In 2004/05, Barnet won promotion back to the Football League by winning the Conference. Burton inflicted a rare defeat at Underhill winning 3-2 on an emotional night for Brewers' boss, Nigel Clough, whose legendary father, Brian Clough had just died. Liam Hatch and Dean Sinclair scored for Barnet. The corresponding match at Burton ended in a 1-1 draw, Lee Roache scoring for the Bees.

In December 2007, the two sides met in the 2nd round of the FA Cup with the original tie played at Burton's new Pirelli Stadium. Liam Hatch scored for the Bees in a 1-1 draw in which, Bees' keeper, Lee Harrison saved a penalty. An Adam Birchall goal in extra time gave Barnet a 1-0 win at Underhill in the replay and Barnet made it through to the 4th round before losing 1-0 at home to Bristol Rovers.

Earlier this season, the two clubs met in a Football League match for the first time and Burton won 2-0.
