Barnet end Lincoln hoodoo to ease relegation troubles

Barnet's convincing 5-2 win over Lincoln City, on Saturday, not only ended the Bees poor run of results against the Imps, but pushed them up three places in the league to 15th and has considerably eased their relegation fears, with a 12 point gap now between them and 23rd placed, Mansfield Town. First half goals from Adam Birchall, Albert Adomah and Anthony Thomas gave the Bees a strong 3-0 half time lead and a second goal for Adam Birchall in the opening minute of the second half was followed by a first ever Barnet goal for Max Porter. Two late goals for former Barnet trialist, Ben Wright, restored some pride for the Imps but made little difference to the Imps.

Accrington's 4-2 defeat at Chesterfield sees them beginning to look nervously over their shoulders, though they as well as Barnet look now to have done enough not to worry too much. Two Andy Procter goals in the first half looked to have set them on their way to a win that would have almost settled their safety, but Chesterfield, still hoping for a play off place, ran out winners with goals from Niven, an own goal from Roberts, Lowry and Ward.

Shrewsbury and Dagenham & Redbridge drew 1-1 at the New Meadow, with an Andy Cooke gaol putting the Shrews 1-0 up at half time, but Paul Benson grabbing a point for the Daggers. Shrewsbury should be ok now, but the Daggers, who are now on 41 points, poor form of late must be causing John Still some concern.

Shrewsbury have 43 points and level on points with them are Bury who grabbed a fine point away at promotion chasers, Hereford in a 0-0 draw. Also on 43 points now are Chester, who after tumbling badly down the league since the start of the year, finally saw an upturn in their fortunes with a fine 2-1 home win over 4th placed Darlington. First half goals from Paul Rutherford and Richie Partridge gave City a 2-0 half time lead and a Steve Foster gaol in the 2nd half was not enough to get Darlington a point.

With Macclesfield losing on Friday at Stockport, Notts County took the chance to move away from 22nd place, just above the trap door, with a fine 1-0 win over play off chasing, Rochdale. A first half Matt Johnson goal getting them the points. County are now a point above Macclesfield, who in turn are 5 points clear of Mansfield after the Stags went down 2-1 at home to in form, Grimsby Town. The mariners led 1-0 at half time through a Peter Till goal. Mansfield levelled early in the 2nd half through Nathan Arnold, but A Danny Boshell goal, 16 minutes from time wrapped up the points for Grimsby and dropped the Stags into deep trouble. The Stags have now not won at home all year, but they do have 2 games in hand on Macclesfield.

Finally, a 2-0 defeat at Brentford, sees bottom club, Wrexham deep I the mire, 6 points adrift of Macclesfield though they do have 3 games in hand. Two Ricky Shakes goals wrapped the points up for the other Bees.
