Goalkeepers:
Tommy Lee joined Macclesfield in the summer of 2006 from Manchester United after a spell on loan the previous season. He has made over 50 first team appearances for Macclesfield and spent time on loan at Rochdale last season. He joined Chesterfield this summer after a successful trial period.
Dan Whatsize is a young goalkeeper who has yet to make a first team appearance for Chesterfield.
Defenders:
Kevin Austin joined the Spireites in June 2008 from Swansea City after helping the Welsh club win the League One championship. He made over 100 league appearances for the Swans after joining them in 2004 from Bristol Rovers. He began his career at Saffron Walden before joining Leyton Orient. He made over 100 appearances for Orient before joining Lincoln City for £30,000 in 1996. He made 127 league appearances for the Imps, scoring 2 goals before having short spells at Barnsley and Cambridge United, moving to Bristol Rovers in 2002.
Jamie Lowry is a product of the youth system and has become a first team regular in 2007/08, scoring 6 goals so far. Chesterfield League Appearances: 47(3). Goals: 6
Phil Picken joined the club in 2006 from Manchester United after having had a long spell on loan at Saltergate the previous season. He signed a new two year contract in June 2008. Chesterfield League Appearances: 104(4). Goals: 1
Gregor Robertson began his career at Nottm Forest before moving to Rotherham in 2005. He joined Chesterfield in the summer of 2007. Chesterfield League Appearances: 34(1). Goals: 1.
Alan Goodall has joined Chesterfield in August 2008 following a trial at the club. He began his career at Welsh club, Bangor City before moving to Rochdale in 2004, where he made over 100 appearances scoring 8 goals. He joined Luton last season making 36 appearances, scoring 1 goal.
Aaron Downes is an Australian who began his career in non-league football with Hampton & Richmond and Frickley before joining Chesterfield in 2005. Chesterfield League Appearances: 110(6). Goals: 7.
Danny Hall signed for Chesterfield from Gretna in July 2008. He has previously played for Oldham Athletic and Shrewsbury Town.
Robert Page signed for Chesterfield in the summer of 2008. He began his career at Watford and played over 200 times for the Hertfordshire club before joining Sheffield United in 2001 after an initial loan spell there. He made over 100 appearances for the Blades in three years before moving to Cardiff City and Coventry and, subsequently, Huddersfield Town who released him at the end of last season. He has played 42 times for Wales. Page has been named club captain by Chesterfield for the coming season.
Midfield:
Lloyd Kerry was signed in June 2008 from Sheffield United. He had a loan spell last season at Saltergate. Chesterfield League Appearances: 8(5). Goals: 2
Darren Currie is well known to Bees' fans as he was a firm favourite in his time at Underhill. Currie began his career at before moving to Shrewsbury where he made 66 league appearances scoring 8 goals. He joined Barnet in 1998 and made over 100 appearances for the Bees scoring 21 goals before moving to Wycombe in 2001 for £200,000. He scored 20 goals on over 100 appearances for Wycombe before moving on to Brighton and then Ipswich before joining Luton in 2007. He made 38 appearances for Luton Town and scored 2 goals. He joined Chesterfield in July 2008.
Derek Niven joined Chesterfield from Bolton Wanderers in March 2004 after spending a short period on loan with the Spireites. He previously played with Raith Rovers. Chesterfield League Appearances: 185. Goals: 13.
Jamie Winter joined Chesterfield from SPL club, Aberdeen in the summer of 2007. He had a spell on loan at St. Johnstone. Chesterfield League Appearances: 20(5).
Paul Harsley began his career at Scunthorpe and over 100 appearances, scoring 6 goals for them before moving on to Halifax and then Northampton before joining Macclesfield in 2004. He made over 100 appearances for the Cheshire club, scoring 12 goals before moving to Port Vale in the summer of 2006. He joined Chesterfield in May 2008.
Dan Gray is a young player who has yet to make a first team appearance at Chesterfield. He had a spell on work experience at Alfreton Town last season.
Strikers:
Jamie Ward was signed in 2007 from Torquay United. The former Aston Villa youngster had a spell on loan at Stockport County. Chesterfield League Appearances: 35(9). Goals: 15.
Ben Algar is a young player who made his first team debut last season as a substitute in a JPT match against Hartlepool United. He then went on to make his first league start against Bury. Chesterfield League Appearances: 1(1).
PLAYER TO WATCH
Jack Lester began his career at Grimsby scoring 25 goals for the Mariners before moving to Nottm Forest in 2000. He scored 38 goals in two spells at Forest before joining Chesterfield in the summer of 2007. He has also played for Sheffield United and Doncaster. Chesterfield League Appearances: 35(1). Goals: 25.
