League Two Review
Article by Callum Hickey-carson Monday, 6th September 2010
Need to catch-up on the latest going ons in League Two?

There were two notable results this weekend in the lowest league in league football. Newly promoted Oxford United bulldozed their way through bottom of the league Morecambe 4-0 and Gillingham fought and fought, but couldn’t quite find that extra strength to beat Bury in a 5-4 thriller.

Another brilliant weekend in League Two has passed and as usual if was action-packed and full of surprises, which is the reason we all love the lower leagues! Barnet finally managed to get their first win of the season and will be hoping it’s the first of many after beating Cheltenham 3-1, which is more than can be said for ex-Barnet player Andy Hessenthaler who has only managed three points in five games as Gillingham manager and even they were draws, not a good start and The Gills' fans will be fuming.

Shrewsbury, however are sitting on the top of the table with pride and have also got the best goal difference for that matter. Graham Turner is doing a fantastic job at trying to get Town back up to League One, where they struggled under Paul Simpson last year, but I’m sure that all of the fans and staff associated with The Shrews will be optimistic (and so they should be) that Turner will help them on their way up the football league.

Although the season has only just be born there is a familiar face at the top of the top scores list. Have you guessed? That’s right Adam Le Fondre.  Adam will be delighted with his start to the season after netting five in just as many games. Adam joined Rotherham last season and was a big hit after scoring a massive 30 goals in 48 league games for The Millers.  Le Fondre will be hoping to repeat that performance this season and as a football fan I can say I hope he improves on it, because I love watching goals and Le Fondre is a magnificent finisher.

Finally I would like to talk about two very lucky teams this week. If you have seen the match facts for these games you will already know who I am talking about. Accrington Stanley and Aldershot. Accrington played Wycombe at the weekend and went 1-0 down after 67 minutes. Stanley made a last ditch substitution in the last 10 minutes of the game, Boulding for Parkinson. Five minutes stoppage time where played and in the 4th minute Boulding scored a tap-in from 4 yards out. But it gets worse, Aldershot where even more lucky after being rescued 5 minutes into stoppage time by Harding who slotted his shot into the bottom corner to save The Shots from losing. One point gained for Aldershot and Accrington two lost for Wycombe and Northampton.
